For our project’s website, we used Github to host the domain and HTML and CSS to create and design the website. Since our project centers around Airbnb, we decided to design our website to look similar to the Airbnb website.
We used Tableau to create all of our data visualizations as it is extremely versatile and also allowed us to use multiple data sets such as “listing.csv” and the spatial data set “neighborhoods.geojson” when creating a scalable map.
It was important for us to use software that can easily combine multiple data sets that showcase the geological region of Los Angeles and its individually divided neighborhoods within Los Angeles. Additionally, we used Timeline.js to create a timeline that clearly illustrates the development of online short-term rental (STR) platforms over the years, with more emphasis on major events in the rise of Airbnb.
